19 Dec Family Entertainment in Fall
When you hear the word fall, what comes to mind? Depending upon where you live, you possibly think of different things. We typically start cooking warmer meals, and huddling with a good book sounds like just the ticket. We take out our Halloween decorations and turn our front yards into spooky displays. We drop in orchard stands and buy fresh produce.
Fall is also a great time for gathering with extended family for numbers of fun events and traditions, and if you want to get the whole clan together for an event, on this page are some ideas you might think about:
Football games. Ummmm … cuz what says fall quite like football? Having anyone over for a BBQ while watching a game is a classic American pastime and one you don’t want to omit on.
Pumpkin carving. There’s nothing like acquiring all the kids together to carve faces in jack o’ lanterns. It’s always enjoyment to see what kids create, whether they select something friendly, funny, or creepy.
Apple picking. It’s pretty delightful to go as a crew to pick peaches, pears or apples. And hey … you can always do some canning and fill the pantry shelves so you can indulge in the fruit all through the winter, too.
Family pictures. In prep for the coming Yuletide season, families frequently have pictures taken. It’s always interesting to find just the right location and get a picture with the whole family, utilizing any new additions since the last photo.
Corn maze or haunted houses. There’s nothing quite like selecting some spooks in the month of October. Run past chainsaw holders and get stunned by ghosts as you make your way through haunted mazes and walls.
Thanksgiving. Coming together to enjoy a yummy meal and eat your family’s favorite holiday dishes is charming and comforting. Family, familiarity, and friendships are a lovely thing to observe each fall.
Halloween parties. Bobbing for apples, cake walks, bingo, pumpkin carving, and coloring sheets are all exciting ways for the kids in the family to take joy in the season.
Trick-or-treating. Make it a family affair! Have everyone over for a delicious evening meals, get the kids in costume, and head out to spend the evening getting some treats … and maybe some tricks, too!
Hikes to enjoy the colors. When October rolls around, there’s nothing quite like getting up into the mountains to relish nature’s colors. Something about the crisp air and wonderful surroundings is invigorating.
Run a race together. Whether you decide to run a Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning or a Halloween Half, it is interesting to work toward a goal together and then enjoy the race.
Light a fire and read a good book together. When the nights get cooler and it is dark earlier, it’s nice to make it cozy inside by building a fire and reading aloud with your people.
Make caramel apples. Together with carving pumpkins, making caramel apples is a quintessential fall activity. Fresh orchard apples, caramels, and Popsicle sticks provide a delicious treat.
Hay rides. Why not go for a good, old-fashioned hay ride, complete with donuts and apple cider when it’s done?
Have a chili and cornbread cook off. What is it about chili that makes it look like a fall meal? Hold a good-nature competition, have some judges, and see which chili is graded best.
Annual hunting excursion. Lots of families appreciate hunting together. Getting a tag, camping, hiking through the hills, and bringing home game is a fun pastime that has brought families together through time.
Sometimes when the family gathers, it can be hard to keep everyone together (families start expanding when children marry and grandchildren come along). For whatever fun is on the calendar for your family this fall, we can take care of the transportation so everyone can ride together with our Boston party bus.
